The attorney general, Geoffrey Cox, has concluded it is in the public interest to bring proceedings against the far-right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. The first hearing in the case is due to take place at the high court in London on 22 March. A driver hung pork from his lorry to deter Muslim migrants in Calais

Image
A driver hung pork from his lorry to deter Footage has emerged showing raw pork hung from the bumper of a lorry headed for the UK. A clip posted on YouTube seems to show an 18-wheel German truck waiting at the port of Calais with several cuts of meat attached to the back. Its driver is believed to have fastened them there like a weird talisman to deter Muslim refugees from climbing inside and trying to reach the UK. In Islam, people are banned from eating pork but the rules on just being close to pig meat aren’t as clear-cut. Drivers face on-the-spot fines of £2,000 if they are caught with stowaways, which may be what has led to this drastic measure. Pretty distasteful. We just hope he doesn’t eat the meat after arriving at his destination. Around 6,000 migrants are believed to be living in the ‘Jungle’ camp in Calais, hoping to secure passage to the UK by jumping into lorries or getting into the Channel Tunnel. It’s part of the worst r

UK to build £25m Jamaican prison

Image
The UK is to spend £25m on building a prison in Jamaica so that foreign criminals in the UK can be sent home to serve sentences in the Caribbean. The project has been agreed to break the deadlock in negotiations over a prisoner transfer deal between the two countries. More than 600 Jamaican nationals are in UK jails but cannot be deported because of Jamaica's poor prison conditions. Officials say the foreign aid-funded deal could save taxpayers £10m a year when transfers begin in 2020. More than 300 existing offenders are expected to be sent back under the Jamaica prison scheme, which covers those sentenced to at least four years who have 18 months or more left to serve in custody. Currently they cannot be sent to Jamaica because of fears that jail conditions in the country would allow a successful challenge under human rights law. Jamaica is third highest in the list of foreign countries with nationals serving prison sentences in the UK.. Almost 70% of

Robot Fights Kittens In Epic Battle For Control Of The Room

Image
While many argued that Transformers would have been markedly improved with the addition of kittens, Michael Bay sadly hadn't seen this particular piece of evidence and as such, we're now stuck with the kitten-less films we have today.  Hopefully when Bay reboots the series we'll be able to enjoy more kittens in our giant robot films because as has become abundantly clear, the addition of kittens would in turn improve the script (by replacing it with 'meow' sounds) and increase the fan base (it's widely accepted that kittens are nature's way of saying 'AWWWW').  Michael Bay if you're reading this, essentially what we're saying is: robots and kittens, they just work.

Scotland To Trial Cannabis Based Medicine For Children

Image
Epidiolex is a treatment based on cannabidiol (CBD), which is a non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. In previous cases reported in the US, it has been successfully used to treat epilepsy and experts are hoping that it will also help children in Scotland with seizures they cannot control. CBD oil is already available as a nutritional supplemenet, but there could be a much more useful advantage to the substance on the horizon. Many children with serious forms of epilepsy do not respond to the medications that we currently have available. We need new means of treating these conditions so that we can give back some quality of life to these children and their families. Dr Richard Chin, director of the Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre Some patients with Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy, will be given Epidolex, while others will be administered a placebo to measure the effects of the new medicine. Depending on the success of the trials, this could be the start o

Londoners hire snipers to kill foxes in their gardens

Image
They have been a problem in the countryside since time immemorial. Since hunting with horses and hounds was outlawed, farmers and landowners have had to resort to guns. But it’s not just rural folk who are taking a bullet to the heads of foxes nowadays – Londoners are staging a fightback too. For £75 for the first fox and £50 for each subsequent one caught, they can hire a man called Phil (he won’t give his last name through fear of reprisals) and his .22-calibre rifle to kill the vermin that tip over our bins and (allegedly) crawl into our children’s beds at night. With more foxes in London (10,000) than there are buses, his services are in great demand. He told the New York Times that he has repeat customers because within four days of a fox leaving an area, another one has moved in. It’s not helped by people leaving food out for the foxes, bins being left so that they can be tipped over and compost piles being left open.
