Florida Corrections Officer Fired After Video Proof of Him Beating Inmate
Yulee, FL – A Nassau County Jail corrections officer has been charged with simple battery following a confrontation with an inmate, according to police documents. Andrew Wilson Sasser turned himself in after he was caught on surveillance footage physically attacking the 40-year-old male prisoner, according to the documents. Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper fired Sasser following the incident, documents show. Video from inside the Nassau County Jail shows Sasser appear to push and knee the inmate on July 1st. The sheriff said Sasser had been on the force for four years and had never been in any trouble. According to a police report, it all started as a verbal altercation. Sasser told investigators he confronted the 40-year-old inmate after the inmate made comments towards a female inmate.
