It’s been quite the week for Ahmed Mohamed. The 14-year-old was arrested this past Monday at his Irving, Texas high school after bringing a homemade clock into class to show his teacher at MacArthur High School.  He was then questioned by police and taken into custody for building what the police call a “hoax bomb.” Mohamed was eventually released after police did not file charges.  However, that was certainly not the end of it, as the story went viral across the Internet.  Many supported Mohamed’s inventive curiosity — though some wondered how “inventive” the clock actually was — and President Obama even invited the teen to visit the White House.  Mohamed was hailed as a hero, with other tech leaders like  Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Box CEO Aaron Levie inviting him to visit their Silicon Valley offices. When Microsoft rolled Windows 10 out a month ago, it declared that patches and updates would be handled cumulatively, without much in the way of explanation, and that such patches would be mandatory for all Home users.  Pro users would be able to defer MS patches for a limited time, while Enterprise customers would have more flexibility.  In all cases, however, Microsoft decided to largely stop providing patch notes or any kind of information that detailed the contents of a non-security update, feature, or patch.  Now, the company is reportedly reconsidering that stance, but only for enterprise customers. Jim Alkove, a VP in the Windows Group, has indicated that Microsoft is evaluating user feedback about its new policies. “We’ve heard that feedback from enterprise customers,” Alkove said, “So we’re actively working on how we provide them with information about what’s changing and what new capabilities and new value they’re getting.”  The original plan, of course, was to p

Windows 10 launched today   but because Microsoft is releasing its new OS in waves, not everyone can get it right away.  Furthermore, some users are having trouble with Windows Update (on one of my PCs, I got an error last night, and this morning it simply got stuck on “Checking for updates”).  Thankfully, there’s a simple workaround. All you need is a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, and an Internet connection.  Fair warning, though: This process will take a bit longer than going through Windows Update. It’s the manual version of everything the “ Get Windows 10 ″ tool is supposed to handle for you. Back up everything and make sure you’re ready.
