Man City and Manchester United among top six best paid sport teams

Manchester City are the third-best paid sport team in the world - three places ahead of United - for 2015. Paris Saint-Germain, who recently secured their third successive Ligue 1 title and were taken over by Qatar Sports Investment in 2011, are first with an average weekly wage of £101,898, according to the Sporting Intelligence website. City spent an average of £96,445 on wages per week, while United's is £89,988. Annually, that amounts to £5,015,122 for City and £4,679,377 for United. As well as PSG, Real Madrid are the only other sport side who shell out more on wages than City. Barcelona and Major League Baseball team LA Dodgers are also above United, in sixth. The annual report was first produced in 2010 and eight football clubs are included in this year's top 12 list, along with three MLB teams and the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Brooklyn Nets. Manchester United could lose second big-money midfielder with Valencia after Juan Mata

The La Liga side think they can lure the Spaniard back to  his home country for a knock-down £20m fee. Mata joined the Old Trafford outfit from Chelsea for £37.5m in January 2014 but could be set to leave for almost half that just 18 months later. The Daily Mirror  claim Valencia want to re-sign Mata after selling him to the Blues in 2011. Mata was forced to leave the La Liga side to help finance what was a crumbling empire at the Mestalla but thanks to new owner Peter Lim they have new-found financial muscle. The report follows the news that Paris St-Germain are still interested in signing Angel di Maria after missing out on the Argentine last summer. If United do decide to sell the pair they could be set for a windfall in excess of £80m. Boss Louis van Gaal still has an unbalanced side which has struggled to gel and it seems that either Mata or Di Maria features in their match day squad rather than both and perhaps United feel that it is time for at least o...

Arsenal and Manchester United will qualify for Champions League but Liverpool and Tottenham will miss out, predicts simulator

Image
Arsenal and Manchester United have been predicted to trump their Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham to Champions League qualification this season, a simulator has predicted. BSports, one arm of STATS, have undertaken the huge task of simulating the rest of this season’s top-flight matches 100,000 times to predict what the final Premier League table could look like in May. And for Chelsea, Manchester City, Gunners and Red Devils fans, it’s good news. Despite Arsene Wenger’s side currently sitting in fifth spot in the table, BSports have calculated that the north Londoners will beat their city rivals Spurs – currently in sixth place – to a third-placed finish with 73 points. United, who are in third position at the moment, have been predicted to fall down the table by one spot – but Louis van Gaal’s side should, crucially, still secure their passage back to Europe’s premier competition for next season. . However, there is less positive...
