Woman slices open dead pregnant relative to try to save her unborn twins

A woman in Cameroon sliced open a dead relative who was refused entry to a hospital in a desperate attempt to save the lives of her unborn twins.

One of the babies was already dead. The other was alive but died shortly after it was removed, according to reports.

The BBC reports that 31-year-old Monique Koumateke was nearly full term when she was rushed to Douala’s Laquintini Hospital on March 11.

A midwife said upon her arrival that she was already dead and staff refused to let her in or help, Ms Koumateke’s family claimed.

‘The mortuary attendant even came and said the babies were still kicking inside the stomach,’ her mother, Marie Sen, told the BBC.

‘We went to the maternity ward [again] but they chased us away.’
Footage of the procedure, taken on a mobile phone, was uploaded online.

It led to the arrest of the woman who carried out the procedure, along with a number of staff members at the hospital and the morgue.
