WORLDS YOUNGEST CONVICTED MURDERERS SET TO BE RELEASED

Catherine and Curtis Jones were convicted of murdering their father’s girlfriend Sonya Nicole Speights back in 1999 at the ages of just 12 and 13.

The siblings, who both allegedly had been subjected to physical and sexual abuse from their father and another male relative who lived with them at the time in their family home in Port St John, Florida, plotted to kill both the men and Sonya after stealing their fathers gun.

One day as the fathers girlfriend Sonya worked on a jigsaw puzzle at the family dinner table, Curtis sat down next to her with the loaded gun on his lap, he then raised the gun and shot her in the chest.

Catherine took the gun from her brother and fired off more rounds into Sonya's chest killing her instantly, the young children then panicked and ran away before later being caught and taken into custody.

They both plead guilty and were charged as adults for first-degree murder becoming the youngest people ever to be charged with murder, both were sentenced to 18 years in prison and a lifetime of probation.

At the time of their arrest investigators said the children were purely motivated by jealousy, however in 2009, ten years after the murder, reports obtained by Florida Today revealed child welfare authorities had been investigating the sexual abuse of both children for quite some time.

They are both set to be released in one weeks time and preparing to start new lives outside of prison.

Curtis is now 29 years old and an ordained minister, while Catherine has built a relationship and found love with a man who had read about their case, the man has since retired from the Navy so he can be with her when she is released from prison.
