Oh dear – Ramadan sticker placed over pigs in blanket section in Morrisons
The supermarket chain has received a bit of flak after customers noticed they were selling pigs in blankets under stickers highlighting offers for Ramadan.
Ramadan is the holy month of fasting for Muslims – whose religion forbids the consumption of pork.
Shoaib Khan spotted the Ramadan sticker on a freezer stocked full of pigs in blankets and pork sausages.
She said: ‘I don’t think it’s offensive, but it’s disappointing. If you’re going to do something like that you need to do it properly, she told the Express. ‘They need to be careful about this sort of thing.’
Another customer – who was shopping in a Bedford store – saw the sticker placed nearby some ham and cheese toasties.
When Morrisons were alerted to the gaffe, they tweeted: ‘Very sorry for this, we are currently looking into this.’
A spokesperson also said: ‘Somebody appears to have moved the sticker before the photo was taken. We can confirm that the Ramadan sticker is not near any pork products this week
