David Cameron getting absolutely savaged by a group of young people.
Radio 1’s Live Lounge is normally reserved for musically talents from all over the world.
But today it played host to even more magical scenes –
Newsbeat’s Chris Smith orchestrated what sounds like the Prime Minister’s most gruelling Q&A session in his election campaign so far.
The savvy youngsters fired a barrage of questions at the PM on topics including the LGBT community and the Living Wage.
And, surprisingly, Mr Cameron squirms more times than he should.
Shots were fired when the Tory leader stressed: ‘If I’m PM after the next election I will continue with equality for gay and lesbian people.’
A member of the audience took issue with the fact that he failed to include ‘transgender’ in that sentence, for which apologised and he said he should have done.
But the real awkward moment came when April gave him a grilling on the Living Wage.
She said: ‘During your time as pm we’ve seen MP’s wages increased yet the British people have still been denied a Living Wage. Is it not time to introduce a Living Wage to ensure that work actually gives people a decent standard of living?’
Mr Cameron said he is in favour of the campaign and ‘most companies who can pay it, should’.
The PM came under fire from Chris Smith over the Living Wage
But as the PM went on to pat himself on the back over a recent increase in the minimum wage, April cut him off: ‘But shouldn’t the minimum wage BE the living wage?
‘What is the point of having a wage that doesn’t give you enough to live off of.’
He began to answer when April interrupted and added: ‘Could you live off £6.50 an hour?’
There’s a lot of floundering when Chris Smith asks: ‘You know how much the living wage is don’t you, Prime Minister?’
He replied: ‘Well that depends on different parts of the country.’
‘Outside London then,’ asks the presenter.
Mr Cameron gives a shoddy answer before Mr Smith adds: ‘Sorry do you know what the living wage is?’
The entire thing is worth a good listen.
