Boozy revellers take to the streets to celebrate the New Year
Thousands of Brits nationwide took to the streets last night to herald the start of 2015, embarking on booze-fuelled antics that will probably be remembered at some point today through the haze of a crippling hangover.
As these pictures show, though, early over-indulgence meant that some revellers peaked a little too soon.
Metropolitan Police have said that as of 6am today, 90 arrests were made by officers working on policing for New Year’s Eve in London.
27 of these arrests were for drunk and disorderly conduct, 22 for assault, six for drugs and seven for sexual offences.
A further two were detained on suspicion of criminal damage, alongside ten public order offences, two offensive weapons and three thefts.
Superintendent Robyn
Williams said: ‘Officers worked hard, alongside stewards, to keep people safe during the event and ensure that everyone who came into central London to enjoy the fireworks was able to make their way home at the end of the night.’
‘The event passed off safely and appeared to be enjoyed by the crowd – the primary objectives of the operation.’
Ambulance services were also preparing for a busy night, with London Ambulance Service taking to Twitter to reveal that they were expecting up to 600 calls an hour.
Jason Killers, the Operations Director of London Ambulance service later said that 1200 emergency calls were received after midnight, with many reporting alcohol-related incidents.
